Solon Borglum carved huge Native American figures in the Cairo bluffs. Those carvings may have inspired his older brother, John “Gutson” Borglum, to carve Mount Rushmore years later. A historical marker on Highway 2, approximately 5 miles west of Cairo, will be dedicated on Saturday, August 20th at 10:00 am in recognition of the works of the Borglum Brothers.
This marker is the cumulation of a community partnership between the students at Centura Jr./Sr. High School and the town of Cairo for the past school year.
