Centura Receives Award for Exceptional Service in Traffic Safety
Centura High School’s Student Council has just received a $250 All-Star Award from the Teens in the Driver Seat® safety program.
For a school to become an All-Star winner, they must participate in multiple driving related educational activities such as distracted driving observations, seat belt observations, parent outreach through Ride With Me, teen surveys, and various activities throughout the school year to promote driver and rider safety. The focus is on the top five risks for teen drivers and passengers which are distractions including passengers and cell phones, low seat belt use, driving at night, drinking and driving and speeding. The 30 members of the student council provide activities, incentives, presentations, post information, and participate in surveys as part of this project. In April they will host the Big Rig program, focusing on the rules of the road with 18 wheel vehicles.
