The Centura FBLA chapter teamed up with the Centura FFA members on August 28thto have the annual Kick-Off party. This year the two organizations decided to mix things up and host a co-ed volleyball tournament for all existing members as well as new members of both organizations. This kick-off party is used as a form of recruitment and also as a way to bring together two different organizations. A pizza and brief meeting were held followed by the much-awaited volleyball tournament. The volleyball tournament brought new members to both organizations as well as a new bond between members. One member, Amber Baldwin, described the event as “one of the purest things.” By this, she meant that students from all walks of life gathered together just to play volleyball. After a fun filled night of playing volleyball the winning team, the “Fuzzy Tacos,” was crowned the champions. This team consisted of Seniors Juan Perez, Amber Baldwin, Elayna Holcomb, Nick Kortz, Spencer Meyer, Ben Noakes, Junior Katelyn Fanta, and 8thgrader Kyra Wooden.

Centura FBLA was involved again this year with bringing awareness to the March of Dimes organization and with fundraising for the cause. “We are thankful that senior members, Grace McDonald and Tessa Raymer, spearheaded this project for our chapter”, stated Mrs. Stacie Loeffelholz. These two members held a baby contest, a staff fundraiser, and a mini-march last fall. McDonald created a video summarizing the activities, which was shown on Centura Vision at a basketball game this winter.
“A huge thank you goes out to the March of Dimes for all of the research they have done. Without them, I don’t know where we would be with our boys.” These words of gratitude were expressed by Boelus resident, Molly Eilenstine, while sharing the story of the premature birth of her twin sons. The Centura Future Business Leaders of America were fortunate enough to hear Molly Eilenstine’s empowering experience with the March of Dimes organization in their efforts to aid mothers and infants in the event of prematurity.

The leaders were welcomed to the conference by guest speaker, Mr. Bill Cordes. Cordes shared his message of YOGOWYPI, “You Only Get Out What You Put In”. He also shared that it isn’t enough to just be a willing participant. One must be eager also. Cordes stated that, “great jobs go to the eager, not to the willing”. The officers also attended breakout sessions tailored to their specified officer position they hold in Centura’s FBLA Chapter, sessions on leadership, community service, and fundraising.
