Last week students in the High Ability Learner (HAL) program tested their Breakout EDU challenges they have been creating during the course of the school year. Breakout EDU is similar to the escape room challenges except that instead of trying to break out of a room before time runs out, your team tries to solve all the puzzles and break into the box. Students in several grades were able to test their skills including one class in 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and two classes in 8th grade. Four classes were successful and two were Soooo close! What’s next on the HAL agenda? Making any changes to their Breakout before family night next week. Good-luck to the families who will participate next week!

The weather was not favorable. Well it was down right miserable to coach (with not enough layers on). The kids all kept warm and helped each other to warm up. The focus was there and the athletes showed they are strong competitors. As the season progresses, the coaches will help the athletes slip into positions that fit their skills and we will look to fill some spots where we are not earning points. Keep coming and cheering us on. When the results from the boys and girls 100m are shared they will be posted.
Centura Cheer tryouts were held on March 24th. The coaches are pleased to introduce the 18-19 Cheer Squad!
Amber Baldwin – Captain
Lizzi Lindell – Co-Captain
Tammy Serr, after serving 6 years as the cheer coach, will hand over the reins to new cheer coach Rozy Dibbern, who will be co-coaching the cheerleaders with Monica McDonald.
Summer practices will be held weekly beginning in May. Cheer camp will be June 15th through the 17th at GINW.
The cheerleaders will host a fireworks stand from June 28th through July 4th – located at the corner of Webb Road and Highway 30 (across from Orscheln’s) in Grand Island.
You can also look for Puffin Pastry sales in August!
The girls are excited to cheer on our athletes next year!!
The All-LouPlatte Conference Wrestlers were selected at the March 14, LPC meeting held at Riverside Golf Club. Wrestlers are chosen from their placings at the LPC wrestling tournament which was held on January 20th in St. Paul.

The Centura Board of Education is working diligently to prepare for the hiring of a new superintendent for the school district. Our goal is to hire a competent and quality administrator who will continue to lead the district forward in the future.
As the school board goes through this process, input from patrons and parents, as well as staff, students, and administrators is valued. A Community Open Forum has been scheduled for patrons and parents of the Centura School District on Thursday, April 5th at two different meetings, 5:30 – 6:15 p.m. and 6:30 -7:15 p.m. in the little theatre. The school board asks the community to offer suggestions pertaining to skills, qualities, or characteristics of which candidates might possess in order to fill this position.
