Centura Boys Win 2 and Lose 1 Last Week in Basketball Action

Last Tuesday Centura traveled to Doniphan to take on the arch-rival Doniphan Trumbull Cardinals.  The Centurions jumped out to a 21-13 first quarter lead and was up 30-24 going into intermission. Centura would outscore Doniphan 19-10 in the third quarter to take a 49-34 lead into the final stanza.  But the Cardinals would come storming back in the final period as they would connect on four 3-pointers and would outscore Centura 24-15.  Centura, led by Joey Carey and Dawson Caspersen, would hang on for a 64-48 win.  Junior Joe Carey would have another big night as he scored 34 points while pulling down 12 rebounds.  Senior Dawson Caspersen would score 16 points while collecting 12 rebounds.  With the win, Centura moved to 3-1 in conference play and 6-4 on the season.

In JV action the young Centurions would pick up win number four as they outscored D/T 36-26.  Leading the way for Centura was Tate Trumler with 10.  Ben Noakes and Eli Wooden would each score 9.  The young Centurions are currently 4-4 on the year.

Centura Vs. Shelton

Last Friday Centura hosted Shelton, a new team, on their schedule.  All five Centura starters would score in double figures as Centura would defeat the bulldogs 85-37.  Dawson Caspersen led the way with 18 points, followed by Noah Wooden with 15, Ben Oman had 14, Joe Carey 13, and Payton Dowse with 11.  Centura jumped out to a 27-9 first quarter lead and was up 45-16 going into intermission.  Centura then outscored the Bulldogs 40-21 in the second half.  With the win Centura moved to 7-4 on the year.

In JV action Centura moved to 5-4 on the year with a 34-22 win over the young Bulldogs.  Ben Noakes led the young Centurions with 17.  Zach Perez and Eli Wooden would score 6 and 5 respectively.

Centura Vs. Cozad

Last Saturday Centura traveled to C1 state rated Cozad.  The Centurions got off to an extremely slow start as they trailed the Haymakers 36-16 at the intermission.  Centura showed up the second half outscoring Cozad 20-9 in the third period.  In the final stanza Centura got to within 1, but the Haymakers would hang on for the 57-50 win to move to 12-1 on the year.  Junior Joe Carey had another big night scoring 21 points and pulling down 15 rebounds.  Noah Wooden would hit four 3-pointers in the second half to finish with 12.  Ben Oman and Dawson Caspersen would score 8 and 7 respectively.  With the loss Centura falls to 7-5.  This Friday they host the Gibbon Buffaloes in a LouPlatte Conference match-up.

In JV action, Centura lost a close one to the Cozad JV 42-41.  Tate Trumler was the leading scorer with 17.  Juan Perez finished with 10, Ben Noakes had 9.  The Junior-Varsity is currently 5-5 on the year.
