Coach Alison Feeney reported, “I was very impressed with our offensive side of the game. I am usually pleased with a couple hitters performances, but the difference in this game, is that we got the ball into a lot of hitters hands and we were able to execute with a kill most rallies. I think that we stayed true to our complete game and didn’t waiver with Ravenna. I really wanted us to focus on staying consistent and not fluctuating no matter what the score was. I think that we were able to serve very aggressively, and run a style of game with Ravenna that we haven’t had the chance to do in a few games.”
On Saturday, We traveled to GICC where we took on 4 very talented teams. Our first match was against Spalding Academy, which was a 2 set sweep.
Next match was against South Loup, who is ranked in the top 10 in NSAA power points, and new to C-2.
I was very impressed with how we played against South Loup, since we don’t really know much about them as a team. We were able to take them out of system, on most plays, which was to our benefit and allowed us to run a very complete net game. Elayna Holcomb stepped up and had some really nice blocks and impressed me as our 2nd middle hitter.
Our 3rd match was against West Holt, which proved to be a match where we started to get challenged with the day playing three matches. I like how we were able to finish the match in 2 sets, and could find a way to win. I think that we were a little tired with our legs, and needed to improve our game in other ways, which we haven’t had to do a lot this year.
In the final match of the day we were able to play a very solid GICC team this year, and pushed them to 17 and 21 points in 2 sets. We didn’t seem to play scared, which as a coach it is nice to see that we didn’t play scared. Even though we were not able to pull away with a win, I think that we played them very well, and understand the importance of a solid blocking game and know the importance of defense behind our hitters and blockers.
This next week we will travel to Loup City to take on both ALC and Doniphan and then wrap up our regular season with our final home match on Thursday against Sandy Creek for senior/parents night.
